Chaos Reign New Details
Greetings Mercenaries,
As the release of MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries - Chaos Reign gets closer, we want to share more details about the DLC, along with some of the updates coming to the base game and existing DLCs.
In this post, we’ll be going over the updated Yen Lo Wang model, new ground units being added across the game, and what we’re calling Clan Core Content.

FIRST - THE YEN LO WANG HERO 'MECH UPDATE
Let’s talk about the new Yen Lo Wang model and skin update.
The original Yen Lo Wang Centurion Hero 'Mech and its skin were created over a decade ago for MechWarrior Online. The design was inspired by the lore and source material available.
Over the years, as we expanded into new markets, added more language support, and grew the MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries player base, we received ongoing feedback about the Hero 'Mechs visual design and how it reads across different audiences.
With this DLC, we’ve taking the opportunity to revisit the Yen Lo Wang and update its visual design. The goal is to bring it closer to current visual standards while keeping the identity of the original intact. We’re happy with how this redesign has turned out, and we think players will see it as a clear upgrade.
Most of you will probably be able to point to the inspiration we used for the update. ;)
(There are 2 Variants of the YLW Hero 'Mech one from the base game and one from Call to Arms DLC )

NEXT - CLAN CORE CONTENT
Clan Core Content is a specific set of content and features that are in the game to act as Clan Era Base Game Content. Clan Core Content is part of a broader effort to make Chaos Reign more accessible and easier to jump into. We wanted players to be able to pick up this DLC and have a complete experience, even if they don’t own Shadow of Kerensky. It also sets us up to support future Clan Invasion era content in a more consistent way.
- Purchasing any Clan Invasion era DLC unlocks access to shared Clan Core systems and features.
- These include timeline progression into 3050 and beyond, updated Inner Sphere map states, and new factions.
- Clan enemies, missions, and incursions are available to all Clan-era players to keep combat varied and populated.
- A core set of Clan ‘Mechs and units can appear in missions, regardless of DLC ownership, to support encounter variety.
- Ownership still matters, with certain ‘Mechs, salvage, and market availability remaining tied to specific DLCs.
FINALLY - THE COMPLETE LIST OF NEW GROUND UNITS
As noted on the CHAOS REIGN web page, We’ve expanded the variety of ground units to add more diversity to combat. This includes new Inner Sphere and Clan tanks, turrets, and support vehicles appearing across the base game and multiple DLCs. Some units are tied to specific DLCs, while others are part of the broader shared roster. Keep an eye out for these new enemies on the battlefield.
